JOB DESCRIPTION
DIRECT CARE STAFF

JOB TITTLE:
Direct Care Staff
SUPERVISOR: Area Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Coordinated Family Support
HOURS OF WORK: To be assigned based on consumer needs
SALARY: $18.00 - $19.00 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY:
The Direct Care Staff is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment to foster growth and facilitate the development of skills needed to live successfully in the current family home as independently as possible. The DCS will help the consumer be as involved with their community and meet their needs. The Direct Care Staff primary role is to provide the appropriate support tailored to the needs and desires of each individual to enable each to select how they wish to spend their free time as much as possible. Direct Care Staff are expected to recognize and communicate when the individual is overwhelmed by the plan or the implementation of the plan, and assist in making appropriate recommendations.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Follow individual needs assessments consistently.
  • Assist/Monitor/Teach individuals with preparation of activities; encourage good personal hygiene, and behavior appropriate at planned events and in the community.
  • Assist the Area Coordinator in the assessment of each individual’s abilities, interests and needs towards the attainment of goals.
  • Assist the Area Coordinator in the development and review of the Quarterly Reporting Tool.
  • All interaction with program participants shall be directed towards the attainment of goals set forth within the referral and needs assessment and Quarterly Reporting Tool.
  • Attend training.
  • Implement and coordinate meaningful coordinated family support activities, access various community services, help preview various program activities and make recommendations for participation.
  • Assist/Monitor/Teach individuals to engage in all aspects of training needed to meet the set goals.
  • Handle emergency situations appropriately. Utilize crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Perform daily record keeping (i.e., data collection, daily logs, mileage reports).
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with developmental disabilities.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • A high school diploma.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be well organized and creative and able to communicate well with people who might have difficulty with communication.

WORK ENVIROMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Minimum of two years experience working with adults and families with disabilities is required, preferably in a community setting.
  • Note writing skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet conditions.
  • Able to recognize unusual or threatening situations related to persons with disabilities.
  • Strong time people management skills, patient, detailed oriented.
  • Knowledge of Regional Center system.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENETS:
  • DOJ Fingerprint background check (child abuse index, criminal record clearance)
  • First Aid/CPR certification for adults and children is required within 30 days from the date of hire.
  • Proof of auto insurance and vehicle registration.
